Rooting has numerous benefits and you can make the most out of your device after gaining root access. However, if you want to send your phone under warranty, then you’ll need to unroot your device. In this guide, I’ll show you how you can easily unroot Samsung Galaxy S5. I’ll also show you a method that doesn’t require using your computer. Note that unrooting is a risky process and you should only attempt it at your own responsibility. If something goes wrong, you might end up with a bricked Galaxy S5.
Why Unroot Samsung Galaxy S5?
While rooting has numerous benefits, unrooting also has some advantages.

What To Do Before You Unroot Samsung Galaxy S5
Before unrooting your Galaxy S5, there are certain tips that you should follow. These tips will make things a bit easier.

Method 1: Unroot Samsung Galaxy S5 Through Odin
This is probably the most popular unrooting method on most Samsung Galaxy devices. The process might seem a bit complicated at first, but I’m sure you’ll be able to unroot your phone in just several minutes. The same method is also used in my earlier post on how to unroot Samsung Galaxy S3.
Step 1 – Install Samsung Kies
If you don’t have Samsung Kies installed on your PC, then download and install it through this link.
Step 2 – Download Odin On Your PC
Download Odin using this link. Once downloaded, extract the ZIP folder on your PC.
Step 3 – Download The Firmware For Your Galaxy S5
Download your phone’s firmware on your PC. Make sure that you download the correct firmware for your Galaxy S5 variant. Two popular sources for downloading Samsung firmwares are sammobile.com and samsung-updates.com. Extract the ZIP folder on your PC. The firmware file will have a .tar.md5 extension.
Step 4 – Enter Into Download Mode
Switch off your phone. Press and hold the Home, Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously until you see a warning screen. Press the Volume Up key to enter into Download mode.
Step 5 – Connect Your Galaxy S5 To Your PC
Open Odin on your PC and connect your Galaxy S5 to your PC using a micro USB cable while the phone is in Download mode. Once connected, Odin should display an Added message.
Step 6 – Select Your Firmware In Odin
Click on the AP button in Odin and select the .tar.md5 firmware file that you extracted earlier.
Step 7 – Check Options In Odin
Make sure that only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are checked under Option.
Step 8 – Click On Start In Odin
Click on the Start button. Wait for the process to complete and this might take a while. Once completed, Odin will show a PASS message. Your Galaxy S5 should now reboot. The first reboot might take longer than usual and this is normal. That’s it! You have successfully unrooted your Galaxy S5. If you want to factory reset the phone or if you’re facing any issues after the unrooting process, then follow the steps below.
Step 9 – Wipe Data On Your Galaxy S5
Turn off your phone. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons to boot into recovery. Go to Wipe data/factory reset using the Volume keys and select it using the Power button. Select Yes to confirm. This will delete all your phone’s data.
Step 10 – Wipe Cache Partition On Your Galaxy S5
Go to Wipe cache partition using the Volume keys and select it using the Power key. Select Yes to confirm. Wait for the process to complete. If your phone doesn’t reboot automatically, then select the Reboot system now option in order to reboot your Galaxy S5.
Method 2: Unroot Your Samsung Galaxy S5 Without Computer
If you don’t have a Windows PC or you want to unroot Galaxy S5 phone without using your PC, then you should use this method. This method uses the SuperSU app to unroot the Galaxy S5 and the entire process should take just several minutes.
Step 1 – Install SuperSU On Your Galaxy S5
Download and install SuperSU on your Galaxy S5 if you don’t have it already installed. You can get it through the Google Play button below.
Step 2 – Update Binary
Open the SuperSU app and tap on the Continue button if you see a popup asking to update binary. Then, tap on the Normal button.
Step 3 – Press Cancel In SuperSU
If you get a popup asking to disable KNOX, tap on the Cancel button. You should now see an Installation succeeded popup message. Tap on OK and reboot your Galaxy S5.
Step 4 – Launch SuperSU
Open the SuperSU app and press Cancel again if you see a popup asking to disable KNOX.
Step 5 – Select Full Unroot
Go to the Settings tab and tap on the Full unroot button. Tap on the Continue button to confirm.
Step 6 – Reboot Your Galaxy S5
Wait for the unrooting process to complete. Once completed, the SuperSU app will close on its own. Reboot your Galaxy S5. That’s it! You have successfully unrooted your phone.
