Don’t get me started on the spotty 4G or 3G connectivity we have across the globe right now. Unless you are living in a big metropolitan area with multiple service providers, you will face the excruciatingly painful no-Internet-day. On that day, you will be glad for the five great offline apps for Android list and how it helped to you stay sane. I usually move to remote areas during the holidays so I have first-hand experience about no Internet connectivity. Even though the carriers promise connectivity all over the country, there are times when even the fastest 4G provider simply sucks. I distinctly remember a time when I had to send an important mail but was unable to do so until I reached my home city. I’m pretty sure similar things have happened to you as well. While these five great offline apps for Android may not provide you drastic features like live video chatting, they will still come in handy on numerous occasions. It is highly unusual for me to recommend a full list of Android apps to be installed on your device but this is one of those lists. The apps are not that big to pose a serious threat to your internal storage, so you might as well install them and forget about them. Think of them as umbrellas, you don’t need them every day but you are thankful when it’s raining to have them. Note: The 5 great offline apps for Android were tested on a Sony Xperia Z smartphone. The only time I used Internet for these apps was when I was downloading content. After you have completed the necessary downloads, the apps are fully accessible without the need of any Internet connectivity. The apps worked perfectly fine and there were no problems faced during the testing process. Due to the diverse nature of the apps, they are not in any particular order.

So I had to list some amazing apps which are usually online but can also offer offline features. Kiwix is an app that aims to provide you everything on Wikipedia off-line. I know this is a very ambitious premise, one that can take up a lot of space on your smartphone, but if you want everything accessible at every possible time, this is the best app for you. I highly recommend this app if you are a student and have a dedicated tablet. If you’re a parent, then I also recommend that you install it on your family tablet, so that everyone will be able to use information when they need it the most. Now you can complete your homework even when there is a blizzard outside, and the power is out. Free Version

After you have downloaded the books you want to read, you can access them offline and read them at your own pace. I have a job that requires an up-to-date knowledge about the tech world and this app has helped me cram a ton of knowledge right before a meeting. The app basically allows you to save any article you find online and presents it in a very readable way offline. You won’t need to save pages in your browser just to read them later now, Pocket will do that for you in a highly manageable manner. Free Version

4. Google Translate

For example if you are trying to learn Spanish, you can download Spanish and English to translate even when you are off-line. I currently have six different languages installed on my Google Translate app, even though I don’t really need them at all. But if you’re into learning a new language and don’t want to spend a ton on data charges, this is one of the best apps you can get. Free Version
